How do I get my produce?
A common complaint we’ve heard over the years about CSAs is that they inundate you with produce each week and much of it goes to waste. This makes us sad, so our CSA has distributions every other week. Our distributions for Monkton (on the farm), Windfall Orchard, and Essex Junction will have on-site pickups. This means you go to your distribution location during designated hours in the late afternoon / early evening to grab your bag. Either someone will be there to give you your bag or all bags will be laid out on a table and you will take the one with your name on it.
As for Burlington (all neighborhoods), Winooski, and South Burlington - for the 2022 season we will be delivering CSA shares! Every other Friday we’ll bring your CSA share directly to your doorstep between 3pm and 6pm.
When do I get my bag?
All distributions are every other week on Fridays. All sites except Windfall Orchard will run from 3 until 6 pm. Pickup at Windfall will take place between 4 and 6 pm.
What is going into my bag?
We design our CSA to be a product that we would want to buy ourselves. We try to create a balance of functionality and flavor with each distribution.
A bag in August might contain the following: 1/2# bag of salad mix, 2 cucumbers, 1 bag of fingerling potatoes, 1 bunch of basil, 2# of Heirloom Tomatoes, 1 bunch of carrots, 1 bunch of fresh onions, 1 pint of edamame, 1/2# of haricot verts, and 1.5# of summer squash.
This bag has bright and background flavors, crunchy and soft textures, things that require cooking and things that can be eaten raw. There are also a few things you can snack on, while others can be the base of an entire meal. We kind of think of planning your CSA like how we plan a menu - variation and balance.
It should also be noted that we will occasionally put produce from other farms in our bags - such as fruits we don’t grow. Because apples and strawberries are delicious and we have friends that do an amazing job growing those crops!
How much stuff is going to be in my bag?
We have two CSA sizes available - full shares and half shares. Full shares are designed to feed an “average” family of 4 for two weeks. A full size share is also a good option for a single person or couple who cook most nights, especially for vegetarians. This is also a good option for people who want to do a lot of processing and preserving.
A half share is designed for a single person who cooks fairly regularly. This could also be an option for couples who want quality produce, but don’t cook on a nightly basis. Half shares receive exactly half of what full shares get.
And what happens if you eat a ton of veggies and it looks like your share isn’t providing you with enough? You can supplement your bag with add-ons through our online store (more info below).
Add-Ons
For the 2022 season we will be offering plenty of other stuff that you can add on to your CSA share. You can always add more of whatever we have in stock to your bag. Planning a big cook-out and need 4 bags of salad mix and 5 pounds of zucchini? You can add that onto your normal share. Similarly you will be able to add any of our our products - pickles, vinegars, dressings, sauces, and more.
Recipes

Each share will have a recipe in it that has been generated by our team of chefs. The recipes will help to give you ideas on how some of the pieces of your share can be put together. There will also be quick lessons in technique for some of the less common produce that might find its way into your bag.
Windfall Orchard - Apples, Pizza, and more
For 2022 we have once again partnered with Windfall Orchard in Cornwall. Windfall will serve as one of our pickup locations and pickups here will happen on Fridays. While there you can pick up any products that Windfall has for sale - from pizzas to cider to stews. We think that some of the best food in Vermont comes the kitchen at Windfall Orchard and we highly suggest picking up your share at this beautiful property.
In 2020 Windfall Orchard started selling par-baked pizzas cooked in their pizza oven. The dough is carefully made on-site and the majority of the toppings come from their own gardens. All you need to do to enjoy is to pop your pie in the oven to finish! It’s the best pizza any of us have had in Vermont in a long time.
Apples and cider will also be made available to all of our CSA customers as an add-on through our website once apple season is upon us.
What if I need to miss a distribution?
Sometimes life is just too busy to make it to CSA - so then what? If you already know that you will miss a pickup please let us know so that we don’t pack a bag for you. If so desired we can re-allocate the value of that missed bag to another week.
And what if you forget to come and don’t let us know ahead of time? We’ll take your share back to our walk-in where you can come and pick it up on either Monday morning or any time Tuesday of the next week. Please contact us to set up a time to pick up your missed share. If you can’t pick it up we unfortunately can’t reallocate the missed value to a different week. That would cause us to lose money on your share because we already packed a bag for you.
